We are so excited to welcome Vic as our Writer in Residence. We had so many fantastic applications and our Trustees had such a difficult time making a decision. Here is a little from Vic!

About Me…

Hi I’m Vic Camp and I’m so excited to be the new volunteer writer in residence for Autistic Parents UK. I’ve been wondering what things would be useful for you to know about me and also how for some readers quick and easy access to that information would be ideal given I expect none of us are time rich. In a format that I actually hate but for this purpose it might just work here are the top 20 things I think it would be useful for you to know about me - these are in no particular order and you should know I asked my middle child to give me at least 3 of these as that made it more fun.

  1. I have 3 children, a 22 year old step, a 10 year old and a 5 year old. All boys.

  2. I’m married to the love of my life without whom none of what I do or dream to do would be possible, he is called Nic.

  3. We live in Hereford.

  4. We have zero pets - this is currently a source of contention in the house.

  5. My husband has autism, DCD, EFD, APD and we have always known there was something about Nic that made him different.

  6. I am in the process of being diagnosed with autism and ADHD, so that’s fun.

  7. I don’t have a special interest and I can maintain eye contact.

  8. Nic is the main carer for our children and I’m the main earner. This plays to our strengths but does create some weird and wonderful outcomes which I hope to cover in some of my blogs.

  9. I write to share and also importantly to process. Selecting the correct words and sentences helps me understand how I’m really feeling about something and what I think might be important to share. I also write because I believe in being courageous and saying things that are hard in the hopes it helps!

  10. I’m almost 13 years sober! Go me!

  11. I’m 44 years old - I’m not sure you need to know this but we are way down the list now.

  12. I don’t believe in favourites - colours, foods, books, music.

  13. I am exactly where I am supposed to be. Although sometimes I need a good reminder of that fact.

  14. I work full time supporting the civil service as a consultant. I’m very good at my job.

  15. I love cake.

  16. I like bright colours.

  17. I can struggle to finish tasks ….over to my son to help get me over the line.

  18. My Mum is very nice.

  19. My Mum is quite social, unlike me.

  20. My Mum is quite outgoing which is odd but she does go out quite a bit.
